Molino del Rey
Descripción
Situado en el Paseo Fluvial que bordea la ciudad de Albarracín, encontramos el conocido como molino del Rey, el molino más antiguo de los conservados en el entorno de la ciudad, compuesto por varios cuerpos arquitectónicos de sillería.
La total libertad a la hora de construir este tipo de estructuras fue una de las ventajas ofrecidas por los fueros de Albarracín a los ciudadanos en época medieval, persiguiendo el objetivo de atraer nuevos pobladores venidos de otras regiones.
Históricamente, la mayor parte de estos molinos estuvo destinada a la producción de harina, aunque también en ocasiones a la fabricación textil, aprovechando siempre la fuerza del agua del río Guadalaviar, de sus acequias y canales.
Tras la implantación de los primeros sistemas eléctricos en el territorio, este edificio fue transformado en una central hidroeléctrica que proveía de este tipo de energía a la ciudad y su entorno.
Posteriormente, tras un largo periodo de abandono, la edificación fue reconvertida en la primera piscifactoría ecológica de España, actualmente sin uso.
Description
Located on the Paseo Fluvial that borders the city of Albarracín, we find what is known as the King's mill, the oldest mill preserved in the city's surroundings, composed of several ashlar architectural bodies.
The total freedom when building this type of structures was one of the advantages offered by the Albarracín charters to citizens in medieval times, pursuing the objective of attracting new settlers from other regions.
Historically, most of these mills were used for the production of flour, although sometimes they were also used for textile manufacturing, always taking advantage of the power of the water of the Guadalaviar River, its ditches and canals.
After the implementation of the first electrical systems in the territory, this building was transformed into a hydroelectric plant that provided this type of energy to the city and its surroundings.
Later, after a long period of abandonment, the building was converted into the first ecological fish farm in Spain, currently unused.
